Future and Current opportunities within Tacoma include:

Structural Designers and Engineers who are responsible for carrying out complete engineering design for various building projects with a wide variety of construction materials. As a new employee, you will be exposed to Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Agricultural, Institutional, Heritage, Multi-Storey, and many other types of buildings. The successful candidates will be involved with all facets of projects, including initial client meetings, building design, shop drawing and construction review.

Structural Designer (Engineer in Training)

  • A structural designer will have an engineering degree from a recognized university program with a structural focus (bachelors).

Structural Engineer (P.Eng.)

  • In addition to a recognized engineering degree, a structural engineer will have met the requirements for registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and have their professional engineer (P.Eng.) designation.

Architectural / Engineering Technologists

Architectural / Engineering Technologists positions at Tacoma will involve project management, preparing detailed drawings for building structures using Autocad and Revit, building code review, building design, and on-site construction review.

  • Graduate of a three-year technology program
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Advanced skills using Revit and CAD Software
  • Experience in building design and drafting
  • Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and building science

Building Code Consulting / Plans Examiner:

Building Code Consulting / Plans Examiners perform detailed plans review of various construction projects with a focus on residential, industrial, commercial, institutional (ICI) buildings, for compliance with the architectural, structural, life safety and fire protection requirements of the Ontario Building Code and standards referenced therein. The role will liaison with design professionals, contractors, developers, and owners throughout the plans review process and will be responsible for preparing technical reports as required.

  • Graduate of a three-year technology program
  • Advanced understanding and application of the Ontario Building Code
  • Advanced communication skills (verbal and written) with an emphasis on customer service
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite / Revit / CAD
  • Successful completion of the provincial qualification examination for: Legal Processes, House, Small Buildings, Large Buildings, Building Structural, Complex Buildings and Building Services are an asset, but not mandatory.
